Likewise, the utterance "light" (al-nur) also yields the meaning of existence and appearance, because the opposite of light is darkness, and darkness is pure non-existence, countered by light which yields existence and appearance. For this reason, it is said "the plant lighted" (nawwara al-nabat), meaning: its blossom emerged, in the sense that its blossom appeared.

Sheikh Mahmud Sulayman al-Khatib, Allah sanctified his soul, said in his epistle The Decisive Speech, after transcribing a chapter from the epistle of the Sayyid Abu Abdallah, Allah purified his person: "This noble chapter directed us to describe the Meaning by what He described Himself; so He is a thing, since there is no thing alongside Him, and if He were no thing, He would be non-existence; and He is light, since if He were not light, He would be darkness, and darkness is likewise pure non-existence.

And he, Allah sanctified him, said: "And the Sheikh's determination that He is a thing, a body, and a light—all of that is an affirmation of His appearance in the witnessed form."
