As for the utterance "body" (jism), it also yields the meaning of affirmation and confirms existence, because affirming the existence of a thing is to say of it that it is a body.
It came in The Foundation (Al-Usus) from the tongue of the Knower, glorified is his glory: "And know, O questioner, that the body is a thing, and the thing is a body."
And it came in The Gnostic’s Proof: "And his saying: 'The thing is a body,' he intended by it a specific thing, which is the appearance that serves as the sign of existence."
And he also said: "If you negate from Him the name of 'thing', 'body', 'substance', and 'accident', He has entered into the domain of non-existence."
And it came in The Book of Essential Definitions: "People have differed regarding the definition of the body and its meaning; so it was said: the body is that which is self-subsisting."
And it was said: "It is the existent, etc."
And Sheikh Abd al-Latif Ibrahim, Allah sanctified him, said in one of his commentaries on The Book of Al-Usayfir: "If you say 'not a body', you have negated His existence."
