“That which he mentioned in these three verses is the ultimate peak that the world of mortals can reach in recognizing the Divine Essence—by affirming objective existence (al-wujūd), and negating delineations and boundaries.”
And one of the poets said in verse:
“By Allah! Neither Moses the Interlocutor, nor Christ, nor Muhammad,
No, nor even Gabriel as he ascends toward the Sacred Station,
Have ever known—nor has the simple soul, nor the intellect detached—
Ought of the core reality of Your Essence, save that You are One-and-Only in Essence, Eternal.”
And one of the monotheists stated:
“The ultimate goal in declaring His oneness, and the final boundary in declaring His transcendence, is the divestment of attributes following their affirmation.”
In short, the conclusion of the matter is that we affirm for Him, glorified is He, all attributes of excellence and perfection, and we negate from Him all attributes of deficiency and impossibility.
