Him:“There is nothing like unto Him.” And the boundary of divesting the Divine of attributes (ḥadd al-ta‘ṭīl) is to negate His existence and deny His manifestation; both extremes are entirely invalid in the right of He, the Exalted.
It is stated in Al-Tanbīh:
“Verily, the declaration of transcendence for the Creator is that you negate from Him the attribute of the created being.”
And al-Raddād, Allah sanctified his secret, stated:
“For the foundation of monotheism among the monotheists is the negation of that which the eye perceives.”
What, then, did the eyes perceive? The eyes perceived their Creator, the Prince of the Faithful, glorified is his glory, as a mortal like themselves, in a human form upon which flowed everything that flows upon created beings of eating, drinking, incapacity, illness, increase, and decrease. For this reason, we must declare the Prince of the Faithful, glorified is his glory, transcendent above the human form and all its attachments, implications, conditions, and states that were perceived as flowing upon it.
