And this is the boundary that they term the unknown Boundary (al-ḥadd al-majhūl), the attribute of Hiddenness (ṣifat al-buṭūn), and the form of Subduing Force (ṣūrat al-qahr). Allah, glorified is He, has not bound anyone to servitude through this boundary, because it can neither be pointed to, nor can it be recognized. For pointing—as Sheikh Kamil Salih Ma'ruf stated—is:

"An indication and a directing of intent toward a present, existing entity, so that the addressee may recognize it through the sense of sight."

And this boundary is that concerning which it is said:

"It possesses no attribute to be grasped, no boundary by which parables may be struck, and the speaker has no premise of speech concerning it."

Thus, it is impossible for anyone to recognize it or perceive it, exactly as al-Sayyid al-Makzun, Allah sanctify his secret, said:

"The Essence is observed through the eye of its own Essence,

And the inward reality of what is observed of it is indeed unknown."
