Meaning: He makes them perceive [Him] according to their own capacities, upon their own shape and attribute, without any transition on His part away from the Absolute Being, even if He appeared to plain sight."
And the Sheikh also said in verse:
“And Allah is not a manifest entity within creation that resembles them;
Rather, in His Essence, He appears as One, Unique.”
This means that they perceived Him as resembling them, yet that was nothing but anthropomorphism (tashbīh) and imagination (takhyīl).
And our Illustrious Master, Allah sanctified his secret, said:
"Verily, the Essence (al-Ma‘na) manifests to mortals like a mortal, with a body and a soul, by way of formal configuration (tashkīlan) and imagination (takhyīlan)."
And the Allamah, Sheikh Sulayman al-Ahmad, Allah sanctified his secret, said:
"Everything within the world of the unseen (‘ālam al-ghayb) possesses a likeness within the world of witness (‘ālam al-shahādah), unless they have manifested it purely as an imagination."
