he said: "It does not mean the soul [in a physical sense]—meaning that Allah has a soul in which passing thoughts wander, ideas move, and secrets are concealed; rather, he meant: 'I know not Your unseen realm (ghayb) and Your secret.'"

And concerning His, the Exalted's, saying: {The Most Merciful rose over the Throne,}

he said: "Meaning: He stood with justice."

And concerning His, the Exalted's, saying: {The Face of your Lord,}

he said: "Meaning: His Essence."

And concerning His, the Exalted's, saying: {So wherever you [might] turn, there is the Face of Allah,}

he said: {Meaning: the direction that you are commanded to face toward.}

And concerning His, the Exalted's, saying: {Sailing under Our eyes,}

he said: "Meaning: by Our preservation and Our care."
