And the Exalted said in Surah Al-Baqarah: "{They ask you about wine and gambling. Say, 'In them is great sin and [yet, some] benefit for people. But their sin is greater than their benefit.}'" (Al-Baqarah: 219). And the Exalted said: {"Say, 'My Lord has only forbidden immoralities—what is apparent of them and what is concealed—and sin, and oppression without right...}" (Al-A'raf: 33).
They have interpreted "sin" (Al-Ithm) here as wine, according to the saying of the poet:
I drank "sin" until my intellect vanished
Likewise, "sin" takes away the intellects
It has been narrated in the book Al-Safi from [Imam] Al-Baqir (as) that he said:
"The Messenger of Allah cursed ten in relation to wine: its planter, its guardian, its presser, its drinker, its pourer, its carrier, the one to whom it is carried, its seller, its buyer, and the consumer of its price."
