Wine .... it's condemnation, its praise, its permissibility, its prohibition

Warning: And know, O inquirer... that these outward designations are diverse. Among them is that which is forbidden (Haram) in its outward and its inward; among them is that which is permissible (Halal) in its outward and its inward; among them is that which is forbidden in its outward and permissible in its inward; and among them is that which is permissible in its outward and forbidden in its inward.

This confirms that the application of the discourse to these things—through permissibility, prohibition, praise, censure, command, and prohibition—is not intended for these things in themselves, because their [outward] permissible remains permissible forever and their forbidden remains forbidden forever. I will strike for you a parable of that, which is that wine (Khamr) has been subject to praise, censure, and the neglected, according to the saying of the Exalted in its censure in Surah Al-Ma'idah:

{O you who have believed, indeed, intoxicants, gambling, [sacrificing on] stone alters, and divining arrows are but defilement from the work of Satan, so avoid it that you may be successful. Satan only wants to cause between you animosity and hatred through intoxicants and gambling and to avert you from the remembrance of Allah and from prayer. So will you not desist?} (Al-Ma'idah: 90-91)
