These two sayings: one of them is firm (muhkam) and the other is allegorical (mutashabih). They are opposites; it is necessary to deny one of them or interpret the allegorical in a way that agrees with the firm, to establish the correctness of both sayings together, because he says nothing but the truth.

And his saying: "I am the Fig, I am the Olive" is a stronger proof because the fig and the olive are nothing but earthly trees; neither a luminous being nor a human has manifested through their attributes. If his intent by his saying: "I am the Fig, I am the Olive" was not as we mentioned, then it would be necessary to deny his saying—and we seek refuge with Allah from that.

And he said in the Sermon of Lights: "And whoever denies me has denied Allah on His Throne, and whoever denies Allah, He will punish him with the severest of His punishments and burn him with the evil of His fire."

Let us return to what we were discussing regarding the glorification of a day—which is the last of the days—and the delaying of the Seventh Existence, which is the sanctuary of knowledge. Resembling that are the two letters Alif and Ya, for each of them was placed in the position of the other. It was narrated in the books of Oneness that the letter Alif was last and was made first, and the letter Ya was first and was made last.
