He, the Exalted, has emphasized the preference of the seventh day—which is the Sabbath—its sanctification, and the prohibition of work therein, to denote His transcendence above all human actions, movements, and states, and also to denote its preference over all days.

As for the command to kill everyone who profanes it, it is a proof that whoever attributes to it anything of the earthly human states and actions must undergo metamorphosis (Maskh), just as we must "kill" it, which is the revilement and censure of it.

As for the command to work during the six days symbolized by the Six Existences, it is to denote the obligation of striving and exertion in knowing them and obeying them, because in that is the life of the spirits, just as in our striving and exertion in the necessary works for physical nourishment is the life of the bodies.

It was said: The prohibition of work upon the Jews on the seventh day is an indication of their lack of response to His commands, their unreadiness to accept His illumination, their failure to acknowledge His transcendence, and their lack of belief in Him.

Mention of the exposition of what is meant by the seven exoteric days... The seventh cycle (Al-Kawn Al-Sabi').

It has come in the books of Oneness that the Seventh Existence is the Intellect, and that it is present with the believers and absent from the disbelievers.
