And I caught a glimpse of a hidden, lofty religion
that which transcends all counting and enumeration.
So I became a lover of the Veiled Religion
though the ignorant rebuked and the enemies refuted.
A religion that is the Pure Truth, and all else
are innovations—or if you wish, mere fashions.
A religion that is the illuminating morn if you travel
and if you stay, it is the lush Paradise.
A religion that, if you approach it, is the melting of dew
and if you are estranged1, it is the Threat and the tempests.
A religion as clear as the day; and I see no other
whose courtyard the impurities have so avoided.
A religion whose heart is void of all rancor
so when has any other been free of extremism?
A religion where the rich are dutiful to the poor
while in others, the poor are pushed away.
A religion whose Guardian is merciful to the weak
while in its "others," the weak are humiliated.
