This indicates to the wise gnostic that whoever transgresses by profaning the Sabbath with any of the actions that Moses prohibited therein must undergo metamorphosis (Maskh), which is the killing that Moses—peace be upon him—commanded, because he would have made this person, who is symbolized by the Sabbath, into an object (Maf'ul) like some of the earthly objects.
And the Exalted informed that He has blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it; and that is to indicate that He is too majestic, transcendent, and exalted above all objects. Whoever does not transcend Him above that deserves metamorphosis (Maskh), just as he who does not hallow it deserves death. If the intent of Allah the Exalted and His prophet Moses—peace be upon him—was the outward of the sayings, as the people of disbelief and misguidance believe, it would have been mandatory for us to practice the fasting of the Sabbath and other outward aspects of Moses' law as the Jews practice them, lest we be transformed by metamorphosis or killed by killing. This saying is sufficient for whoever contemplates it.
The Exalted said as a notification to us: {And We made it a deterrent punishment for those who were present and those who succeeded [them]} (Al-Baqarah 66). Meaning: upon whoever preceded among the people of disbelief and misguidance by their precedence in disbelief, and upon whoever followed their predecessor among them later.
