The poem of the poet Sheikh Ahmed Ali Hassan (The Mark of the People)

By the scholar and poet Sheikh (Ahmad Ali Hassan) of Tartus, in praise of the learned jurist Sheikh Habib Eid al-Salih (may God sanctify them both):

The most majestic scholar of the people and he who has become

The knower of truths, choosing their very core

The precedence of guidance and righteousness is in his grasp

Indeed, the ultimate truths are all that he selects

And he walked as the most juristic of believers and hallowers

Of God, in both his faith and his prayer

And the reality of Unicity he has realized, so seek aid

If you wish, within the signs of his cognitions

For you, O Habib, is a hand whose bounty shall be thanked

By those among whom you were a righteous guide

This book of yours is the finest of valuable tomes

Religion and Islam are enshrined within its pages

Righteousness and Faith dwell between its lines

And Knowledge and Gnosis are within its words.
