insights. For it is not permissible to measure all of them solely by the standard of the Five Limits (al-Ḥudūd al-Khamsah) because if we were to reject all outward forms (al-zawahir), it would—Allah forbid—be permissible for us [to commit] theft, adultery, the eating of forbidden things, and the like.
Likewise, if we were to believe in all outward forms, it would—Allah forbid—be permissible for us to believe in the praise of the Opponents (al-Adad); to affirm human attributes (bashariyya) upon the Legatees, the Prophets, and all the Worlds of Light; to teach the [inward] religion to women; to eat the flesh of females among the cattle; and to affirm literal eating, drinking, and marriage for the People of Paradise, and other such things.
In order to be assured of the soundness of our creed, we must believe in what the Prophets, the Legatees, and the Worlds of Light have brought, according to the saying of our Master Abu Shu’ayb—peace be upon him: "Do not take your religion except from one who has taken from us, through an explicit text (nassan) from us, one from another." Thus, every statement, belief, or opinion that does not accord with their statements, belief, and opinion is a corrupt statement and a deviating opinion.
He also said: "Beware, then beware, of the Science of Analogy ('ilm al-qiyas), for it necessitates reversal (al-in'ikas); and through it, desires have differed and opinions have branched out."
