If it were permissible for us to measure them all against a single scale and a single weight, then all the Inward [Bateni] and Outward [Zahiri] laws would be nullified. This is because if we reject all outward forms, then the rulings of permission, prohibition, command, forbid, praise, and blame would become void. Conversely, if we believed in all outward forms [exclusively], the Inward Religion, Transcendence [Tanzih], and all the sayings the Books and the Messengers, as we have previously presented in this treatise regarding the meanings of contradictory, explicit, and ambiguous sayings, as well as sayings of praise, blame, and so on.
