Chapter Eleven: Regarding the Mention of the Praised and the Blamed; the Forbidden, the Permitted, and the Ignored; and the Obligatory, the Traditional, and the Ignored.
I shall recite to you, O seeker, another discourse concerning the knowledge of the commands and prohibitions found in His Mighty Book—regarding the Praised [Mahmud], the Blamed [Madhmum], and the Ignored [Muhmal]; the Forbidden [Muharram], the Permitted [Muhallal], and the Ignored; and the Obligatory [Mafrud], the Traditional [Masnun], and the Ignored. This is to remove doubt, by the will of Allah the Exalted, from you and your believing brothers...
And if an arguer argues on behalf of the opponent: why do you not permit the prohibitions
If an objector should argue against us on behalf of the opponent, saying: "Anyone who hears or reads what is said about you—that you reject Prayer, Fasting, and all the outward rulings of the Sharia—would naturally show hostility and judge you in absentia as a disbeliever [Kafir]. For the Sharia and the Quran have an Outward [Zahir] without which they cannot stand, such as the prohibition of marrying mothers, daughters, and sisters.
Treating these as Pure Inward [Batin Mahd] would necessitate practicing according to the views of the Magians [Zoroastrians].
