Rather, he must fast all months, which is the Perpetual Fasting [Siyam al-Dahr], as our Master the Messenger (peace be upon him) said: "The believer is always fasting."

Similar to this is his (pbuh) saying: "Ramadan neither departs nor arrives."

The discourse on this is as we previously stated regarding the Sabbath [al-Sabt] at the beginning of this treatise. That is, the Exalted set a parable for the Children of Israel through fasting on the Sabbath day—which is a single day—by which He pointed to the fasting of all time [Siyam al-Dahr]. As for this Muhammadan Dome [Qubba Muhammadan], the Exalted has set for us the parable through fasting thirty days, which is the completion of the Arabic monthly cycle. This is to indicate the obligation of fasting all time, because the days of the month are [representative of] the days of all time. The intent behind this is the concealment of all manifestations symbolized by all the days. Allah knows best.

Furthermore, the Exalted mandated fasting during the day and breaking the fast at night, because the Night is a parable for Concealment [Sitr], which is the "Garment," and the Day is a parable for the Unveiling of the Secret [Kashf al-Sitr], as evidenced by the saying of the Exalted: {And We made the night as a garment and made the day for livelihood} (An-Naba 10-11).
