the obligation of Breaking the Fast [Iftar] in private and among the believers, and the rejection of the Outward Fast, is like the necessity of transcending [Tanzih] the persons of the Month in private and in solitude among the believers, and denying incapacity and human states from them.

The obligation of Eating in the month of Ramadan among the believers is to indicate the obligation of Speaking with the knowledge of its secrets and the secrets of its days and nights to them in private. Whoever maintains the Outward Fast in private and among the believers as a matter of religious profession and belief is like one who believes in affirming humanity and its states for the person of the Month and the persons of its days and nights.

And whoever glorifies Ramadan above others and distinguishes between the messengers—while Allah (the Exalted) says: {We make no distinction between any of His messengers} (Al-Baqarah 285)—is like one who prefers the sun of Ramadan, its moon, and its stars over the sun, moon, and stars of other months, making every moon different from the other and every sun different on the other hand, for the one who does not prefer the moon or sun of Ramadan over the suns and moons of the remaining months, it is not permissible for him to fast Ramadan alone.
