Allah has also mandated upon the believers striving and diligence to know the Luminous Persons, to seek the likeness of their religious sciences, to reach their hidden spiritual secrets, and to gain understanding of their celestial meanings. This is done through the form of the Outward Hajj [Pilgrimage] to the House of Allah, as indicated by the saying of the Exalted:

{And [due] to Allah from the people is a pilgrimage to the House - for whoever is able to find thereto a way} (Al-Imran 97).

He mandated it upon us to alert us to the knowledge of the Luminous Persons through the form of this Outward Hajj and its rituals, and so that we may make it a veil and a hijab against the deceitful deniers who plotted, so Allah plotted against them; and Allah is the best of plotters.

Then He mandated upon the believers disassociation [Bara'a] from the deniers of the Luminous Persons and the esoteric religious gnosis, as well as reviling their deniers, manifesting enmity toward them, hating them, and refuting their doctrines.

He also mandated Jihad by restraining the "self that incites to evil" [al-nafs al-ammara bi-su'] from its wretched desires and conquering it through diligence in knowledge and acting upon it, expressed through the outward form of "Jihad in the way of Allah." He made His address in His Mighty Book in an outward manner and applied the name "Jihad" to it, making it an obligation upon the servants for the sake of teaching and discipline.
