Is it permissible, then, to make outward eating and drinking the Religion itself and believe in them?! And the Exalted said: {Marry those that please you of women, two, three, or four; but if you fear that you will not be just, then [marry] one or those your right hands possess. That is more suitable that you may not incline [to injustice]} (An-Nisa' 3). Is it permissible to make marriage like the mandated Religion and believe in it and profess it?!
So this is something that is never permissible; rather, it is permissible to believe in its Inward [Bāṭin]. As for its Outward [Ẓāhir], we use it out of need and necessity, without believing in it or professing it as the religion. The same applies to the outward legal punishments [Hudūd]; so let him understand who [is capable of] understanding.
I say: Allah has mandated upon the believers the concealment of the knowledge of the Luminous Persons and their celestial and earthly manifestations, as well as the concealment of their transcendence from what is unbefitting of them, keeping this away from the denying Opposites [Al-Aḍ-dād al-Jāḥidīn]. This is done through the form of the Outward Fast, so that we may use it as evidence for the meaning of the Inward Signs and make it a veil and a hijab over the Inward.
