Aware. The month of Ramadan is not like other months, and its days are not like other days, and its nights are not like other nights. Its days are indications [dalalat], and its nights are brilliant; the month of Ramadan is great in its importance, majestic in its station, grand in its remembrance, and noble in its place; its days are radiant, its nights are dazzling, its times are luminous, and its hours are shining.
Its beginning is Witnessing [Shahada], its middle is Elevation [Rafa'a], and its end is Gnosis [Ma'rifa]. Whoever remains silent within it, safeguards it, and preserves its sanctity, his work will be accepted, his striving purified, and his reward fulfilled. And whoever squanders his silence, his fasting is lost and his work is ruined; neither his fast nor his striving will be accepted.
Behold, silence is paired with fasting, and it is not complete except by preserving its sanctity, for its sanctity is great and its significance is majestic. Silence during the fast is great; so if his heart remains silent with the truth of Gnosis, then all the limbs have fasted, and the souls are tranquil from the foul source, and his word glows, and it is illuminated.
His proof [is established], and his light has flared up; then at that point, he has become a faster of the day and a stander [in prayer] of the night.
