his is an allusion to the Manifestation [Tajalli]—when its power dominates the earth—veiling itself from the ignorant through the dark densities it displays, such as birth, poverty, and weakness. Yet, it is exalted above the sphere of space [Al-Ayn].

His appearance was a disclosure and a revelation, acting as a veil—the period of respite granted to Iblis and his tribe. Thus, fasting during the day was an allusion to the Manifested One veiling himself while being disclosed to the eyes. Fasting is the person of the Silent One [Al-Samit], one of the persons of the Intellect rising from the Right Side of the Mount. The Eid is the person of the Speaker [Al-Natiq] among his persons, and its meaning is the return of manifestation after occultation. To the Silent One, the allusion was made in His saying (the Exalted): {So whoever among you witnesses the month, let him fast it} (Al-Baqarah 185)—meaning, fast from those who are not its people.

The meaning of His saying (the Exalted): {Then complete the fast until the night} (Al-Baqarah 187) is: be silent regarding the speech of Inward Monotheism until you reach the depths of your private gatherings [Khalwat], which veil you from the eyes of the deniers, just as the night veils the light of the sun from your sight.
