Chapter Eight: Explaining the intended meaning of the limit of Fasting and the Month in the Mighty Book of Allah
Our Sheikh and Master Abu Abd Allah al-Husayn ibn Hamdan al-Khasibi (may Allah sanctify his person) mentioned the meaning of Fasting after the meaning of Zakat in his aforementioned poem, saying:
Fasting is the silence of the Truth,
in which there is no "he said" or "it was said."
A month of thirty days;
its prohibition is its permission.
Among what the author of the Egyptian Treatise [Al-Risala al-Misriyya] cited from his master regarding the previous explanation of Zakat, Prayer, and Water is this:
The month of Ramadan is Abd Allah ibn Abd al-Muttalib. Fasting within it is the necessity of Taqiyya [dissimulation] and the Silence that Abd Allah manifested. Therefore, the root of Fasting became Silence, which is the necessity of Taqiyya. Silence means not bestowing Knowledge except to its deserving recipient [Mustahiqq] and not broadcasting it among those who are not its people. Whoever does that has squandered it.
