As for the Poor [Al-Fuqara]: The one who has no knowledge while being among the collective of Gnosis; he is in need of the Science of Monotheism [Tawhid].

The Needy [Al-Masakin]: The one whom Gnosis has settled [sakanathu], who has submitted to the Truth and given his strength to it.

The Workers over it [Al-Amilina alayha]: The one who works upon the knowledge of those whose hearts are to be reconciled.

Those whose hearts are to be reconciled [Al-Muallafati qulubuhum]: A people who are harmonized by being given knowledge so they may know the virtue of the Science of Monotheism over others.

In the freeing of necks [Fi al-Riqab]: A people whom you have extracted from the filth of Iblis into Gnosis through the calling [Da'wa] to Allah and His Monotheism; thus, you have unshackled their necks.

The Debtors [Al-Gharimin]: Those who owe debts to Allah; he assists them in paying what is due to Allah upon their necks from the debt.

In the way of Allah [Fi Sabil Allah]: He gives them the knowledge that reveals the path of Allah and points through it to the acquisition of Monotheism within the reports of the general public. Within the Quran, he reveals the path of Allah from the paths of Iblis.
