The number of persons in the fourth degree of the ranks of the Nuqaba is seventy-five saints, and each of them is called by the name "Fasting" [Siyam]. The number of persons in the sixth degree is ninety-five saints, and every saint among them is called by the name "Struggle" [Jihad].
Our Master the Commander of the Faithful [Ali] was named "Zakat," and the Noblest Gate [Salman] was named "Zakat," and all types of inward sciences were named "Zakat." Likewise, the Greatest Name [Muhammad] was named "Prayer," and our Master the Commander of the Faithful was also named "Prayer," and every manifestation among His manifestations (the Exalted) was named "Prayer." Similarly, all the months were named by the name "Hajj," and they are the celestial and earthly manifestations, as he said our Sheikh said in his poem: "Hajj is months of knowledge, visited by the seeker." The Crescent [Hilal] was named by the name "Month," and the Moon [Qamar] was also named by the name "Month." Each of the twelve parts of the year was named a "month" because of its fame through the moon. Likewise, the concealment of inward secrets was named "Fasting" [Sawm], according to His saying (the Exalted): {So whoever among you witnesses the month, let him fast it} (Al-Baqarah 185).
The month, which is merely a duration of time, is never seen by anyone; rather, they see the moon by which it is known.
