It was narrated regarding this meaning from Yahya ibn Umm al-Tawil al-Thumali that on the day of the journey to Arafat, he would ascend a hill of the earth and shout at the top of his voice: "Indeed, we are disassociated from you and from whatever you worship other than Allah. We have denied you, and there has appeared between us and between us is enmity and hatred forever until you believe in Allah alone. O Allah, I disavow to You their hairs [ash'arihim] and their skins [absharihim] and their companions, except for those who know You with the true knowledge. O Allah, I disavow to You what they say, and I profess as religion that which they deny. O Allah, judge between us and them with truth, and You are the Best of Judges.
And pray the prayer of the five, recite a greeting, and disavow the prayers, then the greeting (Al-Na'im).
Sheikh Ali al-Na'im—may Allah sanctify him—said regarding this meaning in verse:
Perform the five prayers and recite the greeting, And disavow the [outward] prayers and then the greeting.
Allah the Exalted said: {A disassociation [Bara'a] from Allah and His Messenger to those with whom you made a treaty among the polytheists} (At-Tawbah 1).
