By the "praised," He intended the Inward Luminous Person who is praised; and the "censured" he intended by them the censured, dark person. As for the "neglected" [Muhmal] prayers, they are the mixed persons, as Abu al-Hasan explained to Umar in the book (The Ranks and the Degrees [Al-Maratib wa al-Daraj]) when he asked him, saying: "O my Master, some of these names come to me and they are confusing, so I do not know if they are praised or censured?" Abu al-Hasan said: "O Umar, whatever is confusing to you, look to its companion [Qarin]. If the companion of the name is praised, then the name is praised; and if it is censured, then the name is censured." I said: "May I be your ransom, explain that to me." He said: "Names are of three types: a praised name, a censured name, and a neglected name. That which is praised is a Friend of Allah [Wali Allah]; that which is censured is an Enemy of Allah; and that which is neglected is the one of whom Allah said: {And others are deferred for the command of Allah} (At-Tawbah 106), and His saying: {They have mixed a righteous deed with another that was evil; perhaps Allah will turn to them in forgiveness} (At-Tawbah 102)."
"For the companion [context] serves as a guide for the name. If you see a name associated with the mention of disbelief, disobedience, wrath, a curse, or any of the detested actions, then judge it with censure. If you see the name associated with the mention of faith or obedience, then judge it with praise.
