aforementioned question regarding the four laws [Sharāʾiʿ]: What is the matter with them, that they nullify one another? And [regarding] the one who came and changed and substituted the law of whoever was before him—from the law of the Sabians and the Abrahamic [tradition]; and when Jesus came, he changed and substituted the law of Moses; and when Muhammad came, he changed and substituted the law of Jesus, Moses, and the laws of those before them. So what is the reason for that?
If we were to say: "Muhammad brought the truth, while the laws of Moses and Jesus were false," we would be attributing injustice to Allah, and Allah would be acting in pretense [mura'iyan] in His judgment, sending a messenger of truth and command him with a matter, then send another false messenger who belies the one before him? Is this permissible among the people of faith?!
If we say: All of them brought the truth, then why did they change and substitute each other's laws? Each of them came abrogating the law of the one before him. What is the reason for this?
