But whoever does not know and recognize the persons of the obligatory duties, his obligation does not fall away from him, and he is punished for his abandonment of performing the obligations which we have mentioned possess persons—namely: Prayer, Fasting, Hajj, Zakat, Jihad, and all the rituals of the Hajj. If the Gnostic knows the persons of these obligations inwardly, then the obligation of their outward form has fallen away from him, and that which Allah (Exalted and Majestic) made permissible in His Book has become lawful [Halal] for him after fulfilling the contracts—the lawful from the forbidden.

I have presented in this treatise many narrations indicating that the words of the Exalted in His Mighty Book are all outward images pointing to inward meanings, and that belief in their outward form is not permissible. This is because Allah (the Exalted) described Himself with the "Face," which is nothing but an outward image to indicate an inward meaning; and He described Himself with "Two Hands," which is nothing but an outward image to indicate an inward meaning; and He (Glory be to Him) described Himself with hearing, sight, a mouth, a finger, a soul, a side, and other members of the human form. This is found in the Torah, the Psalms, the Gospel, and the Quran; they are nothing but outward images to indicate inward meanings.
