As the Prince Hasan ibn Makzun [may Allah sanctify him] said regarding the purification of the soul: "The Speaking Messengers [Nutuqa']—may Allah's prayers be upon them—did not command the preservation of a form among the forms of outward worship except as an alert to their hidden secrets; and Allah strikes examples for people that they may reflect." And he said regarding that meaning in his poetry:
Visit a sanctuary where its beauty has dwelled,
And you shall be spared from the hurried night-journey to the mountain.
Do not visit a residence that has become empty [of the spirit],
But visit a sanctuary from which its radiance has never moved.
For that is the Hajj which, if you attain it,
You have attained an intellect [Hija] not reached by camels.
And our Luminous Sheikh [may Allah sanctify his person] said:
Every religion other than this shall vanish,
And the darkness shall disperse, so there is no more gloom.
Prince Hasan ibn Makzun [may Allah sanctify him] traversed this straight path, saying in his poetry and act according to the established way of Love [Hawa] in my creed, And reject the obligations of other creeds.
