He intends by "the night" the Cycle of Veiling (Dur al-Satr) in which the Sun of Truth is veiled by the darkness of falsehood in the world of temperament.

And "Tahajjud" (night prayer) with it is the science of pure monotheism (Tawhid) free from falsehood and the mixture of doubt. Since the supererogatory [prayer] resembles the obligatory, it was to the Gnostic joined to it and necessary for whoever knows the inward of the obligatory [prayer].

Following this speech, I have pointed to the names of the Lights that indicate the legislated supererogatory units in the beginning of the Islamic creed, so I say, and with Allah is success:

And aid and protection from deviation from what is correct; and that is what I have transcribed from the books of the People of Monotheism (Ahl al-Tawhid), may Allah's pleasure be upon them.

The first of the supererogatory [prayer] times: it is the Zuhr, eight units [Rak'at]. The names of the persons according to whose stations they were legislated by transcription are the eight attributed by birth to the Speaking Mim [Muhammad]—unto him be submission. They are: Al-Qasim, Al-Tahir, Abdullah, Ibrahim, Zaynab, Ruqayya, Umm Kulthum, and Fatima.

The second time: it is the Asr, eight persons of supererogatory [prayer] as the first. They are: Abdullah, Muhammad, and Awn (the sons
