in the Name (Al-Ism), which is the person of Prayer, and not believe in the Gate (Al-Bab), which is the person of Water. The same is said regarding wine and its internal person, and likewise regarding the persons of the physical limbs, and the talk of days, nights, hours, and months, and all manifest forms and parables and their internal persons. For all these manifest forms and parables, it is not permissible to prefer them or believe in them internally; rather, preference and glorification belong to their luminous persons. If it were permissible for us to believe in this outward water, or outward wine, or this outward House (the Kaaba), or this outward Zakat, or this outward Fasting, or these outward limbs, or any of these outward forms, it would be permissible for us to believe in all these personified outward manifestations and the physical limbs as well, because their persons are all luminous and heavenly, and it is not permissible for us to believe in one of them to the exclusion of others, just as it is not permissible to believe in one image from these worldly manifestations to the exclusion of others. Thus, it is obligatory either to believe in and follow as religion all of these outward images and parables, or to reject believing in and following all of them as religion. This is as stated in the Gospel, the second chapter of the Epistle of James: {For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at one point is guilty of breaking all of it.
