I say: By this "seeing," he intends their "belief," because the People of Murkiness believe that He is a human like them, just as they saw with their eyes. High is Allah above what the wrongdoers and the straying say, a Great Exaltation.

It was recorded in the book Haqa’iq Asrar al-Din (The Realities of the Secrets of Religion) by Abu Muhammad al-Hasan ibn Ali ibn Shu’ba al-Harrani (may Allah sanctify his soul) regarding this meaning:

Whatever occurs with the believer in terms of disbelieving the Truthful ones or entertaining false delusions regarding Allah and His Guardians, it is by way of ignorance, not by way of defiance. This is part of the veil (Hijab) that is upon the heart of the believer. Later, the believer arrives at insight (Basira) and true faith once the veil is removed from him. Indeed, some believers have become higher in rank than others in understanding and gnosis only when more of the veil has been lifted from them than was lifted from their companions, until they reach the "Veil of Elevation." The sign of such a man is that he pauses at a thing when he hears it and says: "I do not know if it is truth or falsehood." If that veil were to thin for him, that which he accepts or rejects would reach the heart; if the heart accepts it, he is a believer, and if he rejects it, he is a disbeliever.

Allah the Exalted said: {And He it is who has produced you from a single soul, then [for you is] a place of dwelling and a place of storage}
