The same applies to all its components—its bowing (Ruku), prostration (Sujud), standing (Qiyam), sitting (Qu'ud), and other things that were not practiced by any of the prophets who preceded this manifestation.
Similarly, the discourse regarding the veneration of Friday, the fasting specifically of the month of Ramadan, and its standing [in prayer] to the exclusion of other months—none of the prophets before the Muhammadan manifestation practiced this. The same applies to Zakat and its manifest form regarding gold, silver, other minerals, animals, and plants. Likewise, the discourse regarding the manifest Hajj, its rituals, and what pertains to it, as well as the manifest Jihad and all other rulings of the Islamic Shari'a—both the subordinate and the followed—which differ from the manifest laws that preceded them. If the intent of the Exalted were their outward form, it would have been obligatory for us to follow and believe in them as the people of those previous laws believed, according to the saying of the Exalted: {Say, "O People of the Scripture, you are [standing] on nothing until you uphold the Torah and the Gospel and what has been revealed to you from your Lord"} (Al-Ma'idah 68). Rather, the intent of the Exalted behind these manifest laws is Inward Meanings and Persons luminous [persons], and He made their outward forms as images and parables to indicate their persons and their inward cognitions.
