Worlds of Light—represented by Water—are found for us to take religious knowledge from, then we should seek one of the firmly grounded, scholarly believers—represented by the Clean Earth (Al-Sa’id al-Tayyib)—to take inward knowledge from him. This is based on His saying: {And if you do not find water, then seek clean earth} (Al-Nisa 43, Al-Ma'idah 6).

Our Sheikh al-Khasibi mentioned the Inward Person of the Water so we might know that the intent of the Creator (Glory be to Him) in His saying: {And We made from water every living thing} (Al-Anbiya 30) is the knowledge of the Person of the Water, who is the Gate (Al-Bab). He is the one who pours forth from his station upon all celestial and earthly existences. As the Exalted said: {And We sent down from the sky pure water} (Al-Furqan 48). He (the Exalted) compared the knowledge emanating from the Gate to pure water to confirm to us that it is the life of our souls, just as the life of our bodies is sustained by manifest water. Indeed, souls perish by being cut off from it, just as bodies die by being cut off from water.
