Allah, Mighty and Majestic, said: {And We sent down from the sky pure water, that We may give life thereby to a dead land and give it for drink to what We created of cattle and many people} (Al-Furqan 48-49).
Thus, He praised water here, yet He censured it in another place, saying: {If there is harm to you from rain} (Al-Nisa 102), making it a source of "harm" there.
The Exalted also said: {And We rained upon them stones of baked clay} (Al-Hijr 74).
And He said: {And We rained upon them a rain, and evil was the rain of those who were warned} (Al-Shu’ara 173).
So He named it here with this disapproved name, "Rain" (Matar), and censured it, whereas it was previously established that He named it with the name of "Life" and praised it.
The blessed and praised Water is the Knowledge that comes from the Gate (Al-Bab). This is because the Heaven is personified by the Gate Salman, and the Earth is personified by Al-Miqdad. The substance of knowledge flows from them to the believers. The Orphans (Al-Aytam) receive knowledge from the Gate and they, in turn, cast it toward the believers.
