The People of Monotheism established that His Day is the Name and His Night is the Jewel of the Name, so we may know that the attributes represented by the Night and Day attributed to the Ahad attach to His Name and His Veil—which is both Pre-eternal (Qidam) and Created (Hadath)—not to His Exalted Ahadite Essence. This is because the Ancient Meaning is Ahad, transcendent above every attribute and every created event.
As for His Invented Name (al-Ism al-Mukhtara’), it is not transcendent from attributes nor from created events. However, the attribute of His Name and His Invented Veil is not like other attributes; no one is capable of describing it as it is, and none perceives it except the Ancient Ahad Meaning. Sayyid al-Makzun (may Allah sanctify him) pointed to this meaning in one of his poems, saying:
A questioner said: "You have spoken much regarding Him.
" I said: "It was but a brief summary."
For I could not, even in the span of continuous time
Reach one-tenth of a tenth of the description of the Originated (al-Maftur)
So how then [could I describe] the Originator (Man Fatara)?
