But if it is said that he is a thing composed of natures, joints, veins, and organs, then you have answered regarding the "How" (Kayfiyya) of Zaid which is the foundation of his essence and is inseparable from him.

"Quiddity" (Mahiyya) is the expression for saying "it is a thing," and what is the thing? Either the meaning of the name is intended, such as our saying "What is the Phoenix?" or "What is the Void?" or it is intended to seek the definition of the essence, such as our saying "What is Man?"—meaning you seek the definition of Man. This is permissible for the spiritual and the physical, except for that which has no differentia, no genus, no limit, and no form. Quiddity is the essential term spoken in response to "What is it?" so that the described may be completed and be what it is by an essential cause.

The Divine Essence is not described by connection or separation. It is not a form, nor is it of forms or shapes. It is not a "How," nor does it have a genus, a differentia, or a limit; it is outside of all limits.

He (may Allah sanctify him) said in another place: "Indeed, His existence is like you find your own soul, despite its weakness. For it is neither outside the body nor inside it, neither connected nor separated. Because if it were outside, there would be no difference between death and life.
