If it is too great for your intellect to establish His existence—the Exalted—without a "How," a quiddity (Mahiyya), or a quantity, then how is it not too great for your intellect to establish this temporal duration without a color, an attribute, an accident, a length, a darkness, a light, or a space?

And [how can you] establish this space, the vastness, color, quality, location, and quiddity of which our intellects are unable to estimate? And [how can you] establish your own hearing, sight, thought, and understanding without an attribute, a color, or a quality? If these created things, which are but some of the creatures, leave us unable to estimate their "How," then how can our created intellects estimate the "How" of the Creator—the Exalted—who created them?

The philosopher and scholar Sheikh Ahmed ibn Jaber (may Allah sanctify him) blessed us by clarifying this meaning to the asker in his treatise, saying: "The 'How' (Kayfiyya) is an expression for a stable state in the body by which the questioner knows "how" it is. It may be an inseparable accident or a separable one, such as with Zaid: if it is asked "How is he?" and it is said that he is healthy or sick, or standing or sitting, then these are accidental qualities outside the essence of Zaid.
