The "affairs" which the Exalted manifested through these days—which represent these universes—are referred to by His saying, Glory be to Him:
{Every day He is in a [new] affair} (Al-Rahman 29).
These have been set over against His manifestations (the Exalted) to the lords of the universes represented by these days—originated over against their own origination—for the purpose of teaching and discipline. They are but forms and parables denoting inward meanings. The proof of that is the difference in the outward laws and the agreement of their inward [meaning]. The diversity of these divine manifestations—while they are actually one Essence—is only due to the diversity of the celestial and terrestrial universes.
Similarly, the diversity of the rotating days and nights—which are actually one day—is due to the diversity of cosmic laws, the rising of the sun, its setting, and its course. As it appears in the Book of the Image and the Likeness (Kitab al-Surah wa al-Mithal) from the Master al-Sadiq, in his saying to al-Mufaddal (peace be upon them both):
"And the rewarded spirit proceeds to the Kingdom (Malakut) and the luminous spirit settles within it; thus he sees his day as night and his night as day."
I [al-Mufaddal] said: "My Master, from what aspect?"
