Behold also the fasting of John's disciples and the non-fasting of Jesus' disciples; their difference indicates that their true intent is the Inward reality (Batin). They only use the Outward form as a veil (Tastur) and for deeper inward meanings.
Each of the two groups points to a meaning that is unified inwardly but diverse outwardly. The indication of the fasting of John's disciples is to denote the transcendence (Tanzih) of the manifestation symbolized by the Sabbath day—abstaining from speaking of it or believing in it in a way that does not befit its Essence which is not perceived and about which the speaker has no speech. It also denotes the concealment of His core secret which is not permissible to reveal, and the obligation of maintaining Taqiyya among the opposites—which is to display a disguise to them through the outward forms of the Sharia and other things.
Just as the indication of the non-fasting of Jesus' disciples is to denote the negation of the outward Sharia among the believers and the obligation of eating and drinking—symbolized by knowledge and remembrance—among the believers only. It also denotes speaking of the manifestation symbolized by the Sabbath and believing in its existence which is manifest to the eyes.
