praising the blamed, and this does not accord with the rational (al-Ma'qul) nor the transmitted [texts] (al-Manqul).

And know that there is no difference between us and the Islamic sects regarding the revelation (al-Tanzil), because they believe regarding the Quran that it is the Book of God and all its sayings are truth and veracity, and regarding the Messenger of God (PBUH) that he brought the truth and veracity, and that he is the Messenger of God without a doubt. Rather, the difference is in interpretation (al-Ta'wil) only. And among the totality of the disagreement between us and them is the interpretation of what He Almighty commanded in His Mighty Book regarding the establishment of the Five Limits (Iqamat al-Hudud al-Khamsah), which some of our brethren—may God pardon them—incline towards believing in the obligation of establishing them in their seclusions (Khalwatihim), professing religion by them, and they rely in that upon what became ambiguous/confusing to them of the narrations and the verses, and that they—may God forgive them—if they contemplated the interpretation of the people of the exoteric (Ahl al-Zahir) and their belief in them, they would find it to be disbelief itself. And it is not permissible to believe in it, and that is because they do not believe except in the apparent forms only, and they deny what is seen by it of the esoteric (al-Batin). And indeed, they profess religion by the example (al-Mathal) and disbelieve in the exemplified (al-Mamthul).
