As for the obstinate, denying disbelievers, they divided and differed regarding the prophetic laws (al-Shara'i' al-Nabawiyyah) and the revealed books with a difference that confirms to the rational knower (al-'Arif al-'Aqil) the validity of affirming the esoteric (Ithbat al-Batin) and invalidating the exoteric (Naqd al-Zahir), just as the Emir Hasan bin Makzun, may God sanctify him, said in his poetry:
If the law of God in religion is one
And the messengers forbade the path of division within it
Then indeed, the way of guidance for people
is one And there is no deviation except in following [divergent] paths
And that is because the disagreement was not situated upon the prophets, nor upon the heavenly books. For each of them alerts and points to the correctness of what preceded him and to non-division, like the saying of the Lord Christ (al-Sayyid al-Masih), peace be upon him: "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law (al-Namus) or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them." And he said: "For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth pass away, not one letter or one stroke will pass from the Law until all is accomplished."
And similar to it is His Almighty's saying: {[We make] no distinction between any of His messengers.} (Al-Baqarah: 285).
