And from it also, from Al-Sadiq, upon us be his peace, that he said: {The praiseworthy Hell (Jahannam) in the esoteric (al-Batin) is the Upriser (al-Qa'im), the Hell of the disbelievers, meaning their punisher with the sword. And the blameworthy Hell is the Pharaoh of this nation, and he is the one whom, if a believer falls into his ropes [traps], he falls into the Hell that God mentioned, and it is in reality transmigration (al-Musukhiyyah). And the praiseworthy Fire (al-Nar) is the Gate (al-Bab), and the blameworthy Fire is transmigration. And the praise in the Fire is more than the praise in Hell, and the praise in Hell is less than the praise in the Fire. And the praise of the Fire is a root (Asl), and the praise of Hell is a branch (Far').}

And similar to it is what Abu al-Hasan informed 'Umar in the book Al-Maratib wa al-Daraj [The Ranks and Degrees] by his saying to him: "O 'Umar, whatever is ambiguous to you of it, then seek its companion (Qarinaha). So if the companion of the name is praiseworthy, then the name is praiseworthy; and if its companion is blameworthy, then the name is blameworthy." I said: "May I be made your ransom, explain that to me." So he said: "Indeed, names are of three kinds: a praiseworthy name, a blameworthy name, and a neglected/neutral name (Ism Muhmal).

So whatever is praiseworthy, it is the ally of God (Wali Allah); and whatever is blameworthy, it is the enemy of God; and whatever is neglected, it is the one about whom God said: {And others are deferred to the command of God.} (At-Tawbah: 106).
