And the Master Al-Muntajab—may God sanctify him—excelled [in expressing] this meaning in his poetry, saying:

And religion is nothing but your abandoning of evil and harm

And your repelling of destruction from your intimate friend through goodness (al-Ma'ruf)

And the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Two traits, there is nothing better than them: Faith in God and benefiting the Muslims. And two traits, there is nothing more malicious than them: Polytheism (Shirk) in God and harming the Muslims."

And among what was reported in clarifying the reality of knowledge (al-'Ilm) and practice (al-'Amal), is what our master Abu al-Tahir Sabur bestowed in his answer to his son in the first council of the book Al-Taliqan, saying:

So he said to him: "O my son, indeed knowledge and practice are conjoined brothers; one cannot stand except by its companion. For the foundation (Qiwam) of knowledge, its pillar ('Imad), and its essence (Jawhar) is faith1 (Iman), and the foundation of practice, its pillar, and its essence is the preservation of devotion to the brethren (Birr al-Ikhwan)."

And he also said when his son asked him, saying: "O my master, which sin has no expiation (Kaffarah) and no repentance (Tawbah)?"

Footnotes

1n some manuscripts there is an addition, and I believe it is from the scribes: Faith (Acknowledgment of the visible form / al-Iqrar bi-al-Surah al-Mar'iyyah).
