imams, ‘Adilayn (just/equating) and Qasitayn (fair/deviating), who stood by the truth and died upon it; may the mercy of Allah be upon them both.”
And all their sayings, even if they were a disguise (dissimulation), they speak nothing but truth and veracity. Thus, the saying of Master al-Sadiq: “(They were two imams)”: meaning two imams for the people of disbelief and misguidance. “(‘Adilayn)”: an allusion to the saying of the Exalted: {those who disbelieve equate [others] with their Lord} (Al-An'am 1). “(Qasitayn)”: an allusion to His saying the Exalted: {And as for the deviators, they will be firewood for Hell} (Al-Jinn 15). “(Who stood by the truth)”: meaning upon the Commander of the Faithful, for among his names is the Truth (Al-Haqq). “(And died upon it)”: meaning upon their rejection, denial, and misguidance. “(The mercy of Allah be upon them)”: meaning [the mercy of Allah is] Al-Mahdi, for he shall be against them, not with them; and among his names is the Mercy of Allah (Rahmat Allah).
