He said: 'Yes, and they have seen Him before the Day of Resurrection.' It was asked: 'When?'
He said: 'When He said: {Am I not your Lord? They said: "Yes, we testify"} (Al-A'raf: 172).' Then he remained silent for an hour and said: 'Indeed, the believers see Him in the world before the Day of Resurrection. Do you not see Him in this your time?' It was asked: 'May I narrate this from you?'
He said: 'No, for if you narrate it, a denier who is ignorant of the meaning of what you say will deny it, and then he will conclude that this is anthropomorphism (tashbih) and disbelief. Yet the vision is not by the heart, but by the eye—Exalted is Allah above what the atheists and anthropomorphists describe.'
And among that is what He, the Exalted, informed us of regarding their plotting against Him and His plotting against them, by His saying: {And they plotted, and Allah plotted, and Allah is the best of plotters} (Al-Imran 54). This indicates the obligation of concealing secrets from the people of rejection and denial.
And the Master Christ, peace be upon him, alluded to this meaning by his saying in the sixth chapter of the Gospel of Matthew: “Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them, otherwise you have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.
