Due to their denial of the two manifestations—the Luminous and the Human—they were deprived of knowing them and transmigrating (al-taqammuṣ) through them. Because of their failure to speak the Truth and Divine Gnosis and acknowledge it, they were deprived of speaking it forever. Allah did not strip them of anything except after their denial and rejection of Him from all aspects, and He did not lead them (Glory be to Him) in a chain whose length is seventy cubits, except after their denial of the Truth from all aspects and their following of Falsehood from all aspects. It was then that Allah the Almighty settled them in the Five 'Khās' (al-Khāʾāt al-Khamsa), the Qushūsh, and the Dabīb; and He deprived them of the knowledge of all that they used to reject and deny. This is the reason for the necessity of their lack of knowledge concerning Truth and Falsehood, the Permissible and the Prohibited, and everything similar that they used to crave. Because of their striving, reliance, and preoccupation with food, drink, and marriage, and their desire for them and choice of them in the human state—whether they were permissible or prohibited, there was no difference to them—Allah made that obligatory for them in the Metamorphosed Forms (al-mamsūkhāt).
