I say, and with Allah is success: The proof of the validity of my interpretation is as established by the author of Kitāb al-Ṣāfī in the exegesis of the Quran in one of the introductions, saying:
'Whatever verses require clarification and explanation, we understand the intent of their meanings either through esoteric interpretation (ta'wīl) due to an ambiguity (tashābuh) therein, or through knowing the reason for its revelation upon which understanding and application depend, or through recognizing abrogation (naskh), specification (takhṣīṣ), or another attribute within it; in short, whatever exceeds the literal explanation of the word which requires hearing from the Infallible (al-Ma'sum). If we find a witness from the clear verses (muhkamat) of the Quran that points to it, we bring it forth, for the Quran explains itself. We have been commanded by the Imams of Truth to return the ambiguous verses (mutashabihat) of the Quran to its clear ones. Otherwise, if we find a reliable narration (hadith) regarding it from the Ahl al-Bayt in the authoritative books through our companions (may Allah be pleased with them), we cite it. Otherwise, we cite what we have narrated from them through the paths of the general public (al-'amma) due to its attribution to the Infallible and the absence of anything contradicting its counterpart in the rulings, as narrated from al-Sadiq: 'If an event occurs to you and you do not find its ruling in what is narrated from us, look at what they narrated from Ali and act upon it.'
